Cartier Santos Galbée
Cartier introduced the Santos Galbée in the late 1980s as a softer, more wearable reading of the original Santos, with rounded case edges and bracelet links that flow into the case as one sculpted piece. Every signature of the line is here in miniature: a blue cabochon set into the crown, painted Roman numerals on a cream dial, and exposed screws on the bezel. This reference 987901 is the 29 mm men's execution, sized for everyday wear.
The cream dial for which the reference is best known has taken on a gentle warmth with age. The blue Roman numerals have faded a touch, and the matching baton hands track cleanly above the printed minute ring. A flat date sits at three, and the blue cabochon caps the crown against the smooth bezel. The integrated steel bracelet closes on a brushed steel Cartier butterfly deployant, and the watch runs on the quartz calibre 687.
Condition is honest for the age. The cream dial carries the patina one hopes to find on a Galbée of this period, and the blue Romans show light fading after three decades of wear. The bracelet has acquired some stretch, with small gaps between the links and a scatter of light marks. The original Cartier box is included.
