Cartier Santos Galbée
The Santos Galbée arrived in the early 1980s as Cartier's softened reinterpretation of the original 1978 Santos, introducing rounded case flanks and an integrated bracelet flowing from the lugs without a break. Reference 1564 is the full-size quartz execution, aimed at the men's market at a moment when Cartier was setting the pace in elegant steel sports watches. The proportions and the unbroken line from case to bracelet remain the defining gesture of the design.
This particular example shows all the textbook Santos hallmarks: a white dial with painted Roman numerals and matching hands, a flat date window, and a blued sapphire cabochon crown set between brushed steel guards. The screw motifs on the bezel and bracelet links are the signature Louis Cartier drew from the world of the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont. It comes accompanied by its original Cartier box.
The watch is in clean, well-preserved condition. The case, dial and bracelet are free of any notable wear, showing only minor marks consistent with regular use. The steel bracelet closes on a Cartier deployant clasp marked with the double-arrow crown, carrying the integrated line of the design through to the wrist.
