Omega Speedmaster Mark 40

The Speedmaster Mark 40 occupies a distinctive corner of the Speedmaster family, produced through the 1990s as the triple-calendar automatic chronograph variant of the Mark series. Where the Moonwatch carried Omega's lunar credentials, the Mark 40 took the Speedmaster name in a more wearable direction — a 39mm steel chronograph with day, date, and month complications driven by the calibre 1151, a Valjoux 7751-based movement Omega chose for its rich calendar architecture. This example dates to 1995, near the heart of the reference's production run.

The dial is black with a plain matte finish, laid out with three sub-registers and applied baton indices with matching sword hands. A tachymeter scale rings the bezel, framing the chronograph layout, and the crown is a signed screw-down. The watch is presented on a leather strap closed by an Omega folding deployant clasp in brushed steel. Powered by the calibre 1151 automatic, the Mark 40 wears with the easy proportions of a mid-1990s sports chronograph — substantial enough to feel like a tool watch, restrained enough for daily use.

The case back shows light surface scratches, and the bracelet links carry minor scuff marks, both consistent with three decades of wear.
