Rolex Datejust "Buckley"
The reference 16030 holds a quietly important place in the Datejust lineage. Produced from the late 1970s through the late 1980s, it was the first steel Datejust to pair the high-beat calibre 3035 with the refinements that would carry the model into the modern era. Among the variants offered during this run, the so-called Buckley dial, named after the dealer who championed the configuration, stands apart for its painted Roman numerals, a deliberately classical choice on a reference more often seen with applied batons. This 1982 example sits squarely within that production.
The grey Buckley dial has a plain surface that lets the painted Roman numerals do the work. Matching hands track the hours, and the date at three is read through the cyclops in the acrylic crystal. The fluted bezel and screw-down crown frame the 36 mm steel case in the proportions that have defined the reference for half a century. The Jubilee bracelet closes on a folding clasp.
The watch comes with its original Rolex box and shows minor signs of wear consistent with regular use.
