Rolex Datejust "Grey"

The reference 1601/8 is the full-gold execution of the Rolex Datejust, drawn from the long 1601 run produced between the late 1950s and the late 1970s. It carries the classic 36 mm case, the fluted bezel that defines the model and the calibre 1575 inside. The grey dial is the quiet surprise here, a plain, almost matte expanse that sets off the warmth of yellow gold more sharply than any champagne tone could. Applied indices and matching hands run cleanly across it, with the date at three under a cyclops.

This particular example wears its years honestly. The screw-down crown seats firmly, and the fluted bezel still catches light the way only a gold Datejust does. The case shows the marks of a Datejust worn for the better part of half a century. The serial on the flank has softened to the point of being read more by touch than by eye, and the case back carries faint surface marks from decades against a bracelet.

The watch comes on a taupe leather strap fitted with a Rolex 18k gold pin buckle, square-profile frame, the crown mark crisp on the tang. The original Rolex box accompanies the watch.
