Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph "Buckley"
Two automatic calibres powered the vintage Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph, reference 16250, over its production. Earlier watches use the calibre 3035, and the calibre 3135 took over around 1988, which makes the 16250 one of the few Rolex references produced with two movements. Collectors know the reference as the Thunderbird. Its defining feature is the Turn-O-Graph bezel, which rotates in both directions around a 36mm stainless steel case.
This 1980s example belongs to the first group and is powered by the calibre 3035. It is fitted with a white Buckley dial with printed Roman numerals and matching baton hands. Buckley is a collectors' nickname that Rolex does not use. It comes from John Buckley, the New York vintage dealer who championed dials with printed numerals. The date window carries its cyclops, and the rotating bezel gives the dial a crisp frame. The watch comes with its box.
The lume plots along the minute track have taken on a brown tone with age, and a few small spots have appeared near the outer minute track, the marks of a dial that has lived through four decades. Light marks run across the bezel and the case back. The case shows minor signs of wear consistent with regular use.
The watch is presented on a grey leather strap with a steel Rolex pin buckle.
