Zenith El Primero 400

The reference 20.0250.400 belongs to the modern revival of Zenith's high-frequency automatic chronograph, the El Primero, first unveiled in 1969. What sets this particular execution apart is the pulsometer scale running around the outer edge of the dial, calibrated to read a pulse over fifteen heartbeats and transforming the chronograph into a genuine medical instrument. It is one of the more characterful configurations of the modern El Primero family.

The 38 mm gold-plated case frames a clean white dial built for legibility, with applied indices and matching hands, three sub-registers for the chronograph functions, and a flat date window at four o'clock. The red pulsometer track stands as the only graphic accent in an otherwise restrained composition. A smooth bezel and signed crown finish the case, and the watch is presented on a tan leather strap with a gold-tone Zenith pin buckle. Inside runs the legendary El Primero caliber 400 at its characteristic 36,000 vph, the high frequency that allows the chronograph to measure tenths of a second.
