Rolex Day-Date "Arabic"

The pyramid dial is the hook on this Rolex Day-Date reference 18038. A textured cream surface broken by applied Roman numerals that catch the light differently across each geometric facet. Rolex offered this dial variant only briefly in the early 1980s, and the Arabic day and date discs in the apertures elevate the watch into truly uncommon territory. These discs were produced in very limited numbers, rarely surface on the vintage market, and turn up far less frequently.

The 36 mm case is 18k yellow gold with the fluted bezel and signed crown that define the reference, and a cyclops sits over the date at three. Applied indices and matching hands read cleanly against the textured cream ground, while inside runs the calibre 3055 automatic with quickset day and date. The watch comes on an oxblood leather strap with a Rolex 18k gold plated pin buckle, letting the gold case and warm dial lead the look.

The solid gold case shows small marks on the surface, the natural character of a 1980s gold Rolex that was worn rather than locked away. The original Rolex box is included, and remnants of the original caseback sticker are still in place. The case shows minor signs of wear consistent with regular use.
