Rolex Lady-Datejust "Onyx"
Rolex turned to hardstone dials for the Lady-Datejust in the late 1970s and into the 1980s, setting onyx, lapis and malachite into the gold cases of reference 6917 for clients who wanted something beyond the standard repertoire. This example belongs to that run, its 26 mm case in 18k yellow gold paired with the fluted bezel that has defined the Datejust silhouette since the 1950s. A flat, depthless black onyx dial leaves nothing to interrupt the surface but the date at three.
The onyx is flawless, its mirror-deep black framed by applied gold indices and matching hands, with the date read through the cyclops at three. The watch is fitted on its 18k yellow gold Oyster bracelet with a folding deployant clasp, and inside runs the automatic calibre 2035. The original Rolex box is included.
The case shows minor signs of wear consistent with regular use. Professional polishing can be arranged free of charge upon request.
